You Can Help

LVBC needs help in many ways. Volunteers may choose to work in the office or for a committee. The following are the present committees:

 

Public Relations

Public Relations is responsible for governing the organizations public image by: assessment of image through surveys and interviews; media relations; advocacy; handling criticism and controversy; recognition; networking; and carrying the message about literacy to the community in a systematic way.

 

Finance/Fund Raising

The Fund Raising committee is responsible for overall direction and control of finances; studying financial procedures; recommending financial controls; assisting in preparation of budgets; reviewing all monthly financial statements; providing for reserves, investments, etc. Committee responsibilities also include searching out funding sources; planning and implementing fund drives/events; defining the need for funds; developing a commitment to fund-raising among members of board staff and membership; contacting businesses and organizations for support, and investigating grant writing prospects.

 

Nominations/Board Development

This committee is responsible for insuring that the board maintains an appropriate number of qualified and active board members. This includes assessing performance of board members, nominating officers, recruiting candidates, guiding the selection process, and orienting/training new members.
